John Robert's Story
Where to begin? Let's see we are in 2010 and we graduated 29 years ago. Wow, that is a long time. I am not going to bore you with the details, but just the highlights of my life. So Far:
Spent 15 years in the United States Navy as a chef. Served on 4 different classes of ship. Saw two-thirds of the world and never regretted one minute of my service. Honorably discharged in May 2000.
Upon discharge from the US Navy, decided to take a leap of faith into the private sector and began working for D'Angelo's Sandwich Shop in Southington, CT as a manager. In the interim, I decided to keep my affiliation with the military, so I decided to enlist in the Air Force Reserve at Westover ARB, Chicopee, MA. My time at D'Angelo's was short lived after September 11, 2001.
Activated twice for Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom, spent the next 2+ years on active duty. Instead of cooking, I decided that my Air Force occupation would be different. I decided to become an Intelligence Analyst. I was sent to school to learn the craft and spent 6 months in San Angelo, TX. When the end of my tour was nearing, I needed to make a decison. g in and around New Haven gave me a real appreciation for the city and I got to know my way around rather quickly. Started out as just a pick-up driver. My second Christmas with the company, I decided to volunteer to deliver packages when volume was the highest. After Christmas, we had 5 days off for the New Year. So I met my future wife in Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
Long distance relationships do not usually last. Ours was definitely different. Over the first 2 years we dated, Rubily and I saweach other every 5 months. That is until Valentine's weekend 2008. She made her first trip south to the US and when all was said and done, she informed me 3 weeks later that we were going to have a baby.
I didn't have any vacation time,so I hadto wait until June, when our calendar turned over and I had vacation time. So June 6, 2008, Ruby and I were married in a civil ceremony in Oakville.
On November 16, 2008 at 1044 am, our daughter, Lianne Ysabelle, came into the world. Sinceher birth, I have relocated to Oakville and now reside here. Ruby, who is from the Philippines, and I are awaiting permanent residency here in Canada.
Until now, I had experienced what I thought was the best life had to offer. Now that I can add Father to that list, makes it all worth the wait.
